One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside all people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all.

“One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

“The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

There is a message for the Sikh sangat and especially Sikh youth in the above story. One must choose his/her own path and not be influenced by others opinions. At the end of the day, every individual is accountable for their own actions.

"One must choose his/her own path and not be influenced by others opinions"

I saw your program on ABC, I would say you expressed it in the right way, what Sikhism is in a nutshell. Thanks for letting everyone know about Sikhism.

Your program led me to your blog here.

Read all entries on this page.

could you please answer my few doubts as I don't want to presume anything about you without asking the right question

In the blog entry "Two Wolves" you advised "Sikh youth" to choose his/her own path and not be influenced by others opinion.

but in the Second entry ref: "Baba Amolak g"
you yourself seem to be very much influenced by Amolak g's views, like 25 paths of japji sahb everyday for 40 days.

I could not understand what hides in numbers 25 and 40 there.

Please dont take it as offensive..I am willing to learn..may have not worded my thoughts properly .. but I am curious to know?

Looking forward to hear from yourside.

Thanks

I personally believe that repetition without understanding is useless. The guru says'"Parh parh gaddi ladiye" meaning that reading without understanding the deeper meaning and without action, one is merely adding the burden onto his mind which is blind to the spiritual world in the first place. On the other hand, if you don't read how would you understand? Same goes for books written by people from other backgrounds. Ask any Sant or gursikh and they will tell you to not read anything other than gurbani. If you don't read them, how would you know what they are saying? How can you then impose that your religion in better than others?

My understanding of the whole Guru Granth Sahib is that it is motivating people of all religions to do just one thing - meditate. If one has no interest in pursuing meditation then rest is all efforts to impress the masses.

I will keep doing what I think is right. Once you start doing meditation and see how many people from other religious sects meditate and understand God and his true message, you will never be interested in politics of any religion. There is no need for grabbing land in the name of religion. We surely need to be safe in this world but occupying politically independent land has not done any good to nay religion. I love all people from all religions who pursue meditation and try to truly understand the formless God and his energy, without trying to impose superiority of their religion over others. If you read closely, all religions are saying exactly the same thing including the Hinduism. Did you know that Rigveda considers the formless God over all other deities? The practices have gone wrong because of the influence of the non-religious politically powerful people not the religion itself.
